Be part of the inaugural Pioneer 5k Run/Walk! Join us on Saturday, June 8 at Veterans Memorial Park for a 5k race and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly reconstructed Pioneer Drive.  The event is presented by the Muskego Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Muskego Health & Wellness, Animal Doctor Holistic Veterinary Complex and Horn Brothers. Proceeds will be used to buy holiday decorations for Pioneer Drive.

Schedule of Events:

Packet Pickup/Race-Day Registration - 8 - 9:30 a.m. in Veterans Park

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - 9:45 a.m. on Pioneer Drive

5k Run/Walk Start - 10 a.m. in Veterans Park

Awards Ceremony - 11 a.m. on Pioneer Drive in front of Marx Pioneer Inn

Block Party on Pioneer Drive (between Horn Bros. and Horn Field) - 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*The profits from the race will be used by the Chamber of Commerce to purchase holiday decorations for Pioneer Drive. Please note that the processing fee goes to our registration service - Eventbrite - not to the Chamber of Commerce.

Race Details:

This is a 5k (3.1 miles) run/walk and will begin at 10 a.m. in Veterans Park. The finish will also be in Veterans Park. All participants will receive a goody bag and a shirt.  Shirts will be guaranteed to those who register by May 31. There will be shirts available for late registrations, but sizes are not guaranteed.

There will be a special Pet Division sponsored by the Animal Doctor Holistic Veterinary Complex for people running or walking with dogs. We ask that you start in the back of the pack if you are competing in this division and clean up any dog waste. Pets will be given a bandana courtesy of the Animal Doctor and all of the proceeds from the pet portion of the entry fee will be donated to Pets for Vets, which is a non-profit organization that helps connect military veterans with pets.

Awards:

The top three overall male and female finishers will receive special awards. Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in the following divisions: 10 and Under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and Over.

We will also give awards to the top three male and female finishers in the Pet Division (and yes, the top dogs will also receive a special treat!).

The awards ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Pioneer Drive in front of Marx Pioneer Inn.

Course:

The course is flat and fast.  Runners and walkers will start in Veterans Park, go left on Pioneer Drive and take that for approximately 1/2 mile before turning around.  The course will then take runners left on Kristin Drive and wind through the neighborhoods for about 1.5 miles before hitting the Muskego Recreation Trail and going back to Veterans Park for the final half mile to the finish.

Post-Race Celebration:

The awards ceremony will start at 11 a.m. on Pioneer Drive in front of Marx Pioneer Inn.  Participants should stay for the Block Party on Pioneer Drive between Horn Bros. and Horn Field. The party will feature street bowling, food and drinks, and live music. It will last until 5 p.m. and promises to be fun for the entire family.

Parking:

Parking is available in the City Hall parking lot along Pioneer Drive south of City Hall, in the Muskego Industrial Park and in the parking lot at the Historic Settlement Center off Racine Avenue. Parking will not be allowed on Pioneer Drive between City Hall and Horn Brothers prior to and during the race.

This event celebrates the human animal bond and the desire to live a healthy life-style for pets and people through physical exercise and fresh air! Not only will proceeds from this event help to beautify the community, but those who walk their dogs and visit the event start-up location at Veterans Park will be able to contribute to a cause that supports pairing shelter pets with military veterans.  This is a worthy charity in need of support.
